Volunteer Program

The fire service is a highly challenging and diverse profession. Firefighters are trained to cope with a wide variety of emergency situations, any time of day and under potentially stressful and emotional circumstances. These challenges contribute to the profession being personally rewarding.

All members are volunteers who support the department in all activities including emergency response, training, fundraising, maintenance, and other special activities. All recruits are required to attend the monthly department business meeting, where you will be voted on by the department members and placed on a 30 day probationary period. The minimum age requirement to become a volunteer firefighter is 18 years.

Paid training is provided by the Lewisburg Fire Department, no experience is necessary. New members will attain Mississippi Volunteer Firefighter Certification after joining the department. Classes are typically offered once a year and cover basic firefighting and rescue skills.

After completing classroom instruction, members will travel to the Mississippi Fire Academy to be checked off on skills.
